I have only been in the blogging world for a month or so now, but let me tell you something. Since leaving high school ten years ago, I have not used my brain as much as I am now! I am trying my hardest to be successful by just following all the steps that I’ve learned. I am nowhere near where I want to be with my blog but I am so excited to be able to share my progress as the months come!
So it’s been a couple of weeks since you started your blog. At this point, you’ve found a host for your website, picked out a theme, and narrowed down your niche! Don’t know what I’m talking about? Let me take you back to step one!
This course walked me through all the steps of starting my blog from the very beginning! I followed Emma’s guide and I’m well on my way to a successful blog. I personally started my blog with DreamHost after hearing mixed reviews about other blog hosts and I have been so satisfied! You actually get to pay for your blog monthly, not all at one time for a year’s usage!! Sign up here!
Once you get up and going, come back to this page and take some tips on how to easily be a successful blogger this year (pin this page so you can easily find it later).
Before Launching, Write Some Important Posts
You’ve got you’re website laid out how you want it to be and you’re ready to share with the world that you are starting a blog but WAIT! If you start posting right away, your audience will have no content to look at! This means they aren’t going to have any reason to want to stick around and explore your site! We are trying to be a successful blogger here, right? Not a one-hit wonder!
Notice I said write IMPORTANT posts. When I was getting ready to start my writing, I was ready to just slab together some work so I had materials on my page, but doing this has the same effect as having no materials. Your audience isn’t going to stay on your page to read crappy posts. So take a day or two on each initial post to make it worthy of wanting to read more.
Create a Freebie
What does it mean to “create a freebie,” you ask? It’s simply a product you create, in exchange for your readers to subscribe to your blog. Now, it can’t be just any product. It has to be something that will help the readers solve a problem. Something that goes along with your niche. And of course, offer it free! I took a shot at creating my own and surprisingly, it’s been the easiest part of my blog work so far! 🙂 Take a look! It’s mid page of my FIRST EVER blog post.
Creating a freebie is great for growing your email list. A great place to start with freebies is
That being said…
Grow Your Email List
Growing my email list, was something I never even thought of when I started my blog. Why do you need an email list?? Having an email list helps you to keep in touch with those that are interested in your content! Eventually, your email list might help you make a substantial amount of money! Your followers are the ones watching you and supporting your blog so grow that list!
Twinsmommy Blog goes into depth, on how to grow your email list practically overnight! I have a long ways to go with my email list but when I come back to update, I’ll share how much it’s grown.
Set up a schedule
When I started my blog, I felt that I needed to work on it 24/7. Eat, workout, blog, sleep. Eat, workout, blog, sleep. Oh, wait.. you’re talking to a full-time wife and mom here! Can’t forget about caring for them! My life before blogging, was already so hectic, so to me, a blog schedule is a MUST. Don’t overdo yourself or you might begin to dread blogging and that is a big cause of blog failure.
Chose a day or two of the week mainly for writing posts. Then another for interacting with other bloggers with any questions you or they might have to help broaden your education. Pick a day to work on your platforms ( I personally started out using Facebook to connect with other bloggers and Pinterest/Instagram to grow traffic). Choose a day to create pins for your Pinterest posts. Take some time to jot down post ideas. The possibilities of time management are endless!
Email me and I would love to share my schedule with you!
Organize, Organize, Organize
If you watch 15 videos on blogging a day like I do and take notes on each of them, it’s smart to find a way to organize what you learn. I originally started out writing everything in a notebook. My blog post ideas and layouts, pages to follow, how to make a pin, courses I was interested in doing, affiliates I was interested in (I’ll touch base on this later), etc. My notebook was so jumbled!
I came across a planner that has literally SAVED MY BRAIN! It’s called The Blogging Babe Planner! This planner has 64+ pages as well as 30+ worksheets to help you grow your blog! The aspects that I’ve found most useful are:
- Planning for monthly and yearly goals (I just started on my 2021 goals today!)
- Daily and weekly tasks
- Blog post planner
- Username and passwords (THIS IS A HUGE YES!!!)
- Affiliate Programs list
I could brag about this planner forever and I haven’t even filled out all my pages but check it out here! This was the best little investment I made, to help me become a successful blogger.
Join Facebook Groups
Entering into the world of blogging, I knew I needed to connect with other bloggers in order to help myself become successful. I wasn’t sure how to do this. After reading many articles, joining A FEW different Facebook groups is a great way to promote your own social media as well as meet new bloggers! Here are a few of my favorites that I’ve found so helpful:
- Blogging Babe Collective– They offer different social media shares each day and opportunity for collaboration with other bloggers!
- Blogging Newbs– They also offer different social media shares each day and collaboration! Also, another great place to meet other new bloggers.
- Momfluencers Networking Community– Another great place for social media sharing.
- Mama Tribe– This is my new group! I am offering collaboration days, social media sharing days, and question and answer posts! Join to get some great tips!
I could go on and on with different groups but from what I’m learning, being in too many groups and trying to keep up with all the sharing rules, can be overwhelming. Pick a few and add on if you need to:)
Decide If You want to Monetise Your Blog
Blogging is a lot of fun but it can also be a great source of income! I came into blogging knowing that there was a potential to make money but reading on authors that make thousands a month (NOT KIDDING!), blows my mind! So the question is, are you blogging for fun or to make money? There are different ways to monetize your post. The main ways are through affiliate marketing, product sales, and services.
Affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money on your blog. It is the one way you can make money just starting out because you don’t need a lot of readers to earn! I myself am still learning about all the dirty details but this article here will explain affiliate marketing in depth!
Product sales will come later down the road when you are a little more developed. Remember how I told you to start out making freebies? Take that freebie and branch off to a course on your niche or an email series and have your readers pay to subscribe. This is a great source of income but is time-consuming to get going.
Services are exactly what you would think. What can you provide to your readers? Life Coaching? Freelance writing? Virtual assistant? There are endless opportunities for services to offer.
Well, if you made it to the end of this post, I’m proud of you! That shows how dedicated of a blogger you truly are! I hope that this blog gave you some insight and I hope you become more successful then you could ever imagine! BEST WISHES! xoxo
